The Common Loon has solid bones, unlike other birds that have hollow bones. This adds to their weight, which in turn helps them with diving. They can deep dive up to 250 ft (76 m) and can stay underwater for about five minutes. Their legs are placed towards the back of their body which makes them strong swimmers but it's also the cause of their clumsy walking style when on land.
